Northwoods Share aims to Empower Women and Children and to Transform lives with a Transitional Living Facility, Esther's House. With serving families for the past 15 years about one fifth of those families have single moms with children. The program will be the only Eagle River area facility dedicated to assisting homeless women and children.
The organization intends to acquire and re-purpose a vacant commercial building into living units where moms will live with their children as they develop the necessary life skills to break the cycle of poverty. The length of stay is expected to vary between 6 and 18 months to allow families to reach their goals and prepare to become self-sufficient. The facility will be staffed by volunteers and augmented by a comprehensive group of professional individuals and organizations that can be utilized to meet the specific needs of residents.
The NWS mission for this program is to assist women and children move towards self-sufficiency by providing Christ-centered support services that include encouragement, education and a stable living environment. Moms and children will be provided with a variety of services to relieve daily expenses and form a foundation for the restoration and rejuvenation of their lives. Assistance will include life skill classes, debt assessment, budgeting, financial planning, female Christian mentorship and more.
